At our first meeting with Paul McDonald he outlined a comprehensive scenario to sell our house. This included:

We decided to use Paul McDonald Real Estate to sell our home in Prefect Street in May 2016. We had bought the home from Paul in 1994, rebuilt it from scratch in 2000 and it served us faithfully for 22 years. Initially we were very worried about selling as we had many small jobs to do around the house and were very worried about getting tradesmen. We spoke to Paul and he said “But that’s what we do!” Well, we had no idea that this could all be arranged and overseen by the agent and could be completed in 2 weeks ……. geez! The lovely Caroline turned up to manage the works, organise to “show” the house and make sure everything went smoothly. Carpet, painting, tile work, plumbing, electrical and cabinet repair. But hang on……the pricing seemed incredibly low and certainly less than we could have arranged in such a tight timeframe. Suddenly the house was on the market glowing in its new paint, new carpet and new matching furniture. Liz did all the back-room detail, Julia was organising inspections, Paul gave us instant feedback on each inspection. Then the big day arrived! We were a bit concerned about Paul’s new beard but there he was out the front extolling the virtues of our lovely home. The price reached was what we were after, more importantly it was purchased by a lovely couple with a young family who we were convinced would look after the house for years to come. What a professional experience, we never thought a real estate agent would offer all those extra services and make what is a nervy experience seem so simple.

Towards the end of last year I began to consider the timing of when to downsize. Following very strong property valuations from three agencies, I decided to put my beautiful home on the market. When it came time to sell our house after 20years, the decision of which real estate to choose was the easy part. McDonald Upton sold us our house way back in 1988. What struck me then about Paul were his honesty and his accuracy in determining the market value of both the property we had purchased and the property we sold. Over the years I maintained contact with Paul in looking at other houses in the area and gauging what our house was valued at.
Early in March 2011 we found a dream property to purchase but needed an accurate valuation of our house to decide what our spending limit was. Paul came over that day and discussed all the possibilities with us and went through an outline of what was required to put our house on the market. As you are aware we gave a lot of consideration choosing between your company and one of the local major companies to sell our home. Both presentations were professional; your estimates of the probable price, commission and advertising approach were similar. In the end the choice apparent was between the safety of a large company where we would be one of the many customers or the personal service of a smaller company.
We were very pleased with the way that you and your staff looked after our sale. Having your entire team visit our home made them aware of what we had to offer and the personal contact we had with them was pleasant and professional. We felt at all times that they cared about selling our home.
While the viewing process is disruptive we felt your team did as much as possible to keep us informed and make it easy. Your personal performance at the auction was excellent, which is probably the way that most people feel when they get an excellent result.
However it was only after the sale when trying to buy a home that we began to understand the difference. Many of the homes we were interested in were advertised at the wrong time. When we contacted the office when no-one had appeared at the advertised time, often no-one could tell us when the correct viewing time was. This approach did nothing to inspire us to make a second visit and we felt sorry for the home owners who were being poorly represented.
When you are all using a similar marketing approach success depends on how you handle the enquiry, which appears to be the key to the way you run your business.
